A smart detective named Detective Paws lives in the quiet town of Purrington. MrsWhiskers is the town’s librarian. She is deeply upset.
‘Detective Paws,’ she cries, ‘my lovely necklace is missing. It’s a special family treasure!’
Detective Paws finds a clue—a tuft of red fur on the windowsill. He looks around and finds more traces of fur. These lead him to a wooden chest.
A riddle and a map of underground tunnels and chambers are in the chest. The riddle says, ‘I’m found in the day and night, sometimes dark but often light. Full of stories, young and old, where are these stories told?’
After some thought, Detective Paws realises the answer is ‘library.’ Inside the library, he looks for the hidden passages from the map. He finds the entrance under a loose floorboard. He follows the tunnels to solve the mystery.
Finally, he finds piles of glittering treasures deep in the underground maze, including the necklace.
Who does he find gathering all this treasure? He finds Molly, the magpie! ‘I should have known,’ says Detective Paws as he takes Molly away. Molly cries, ‘I’m sorry, but I just couldn’t help myself!’ Mrs Whiskers is very happy to have her necklace back! But who left the clues for Detective Paws? Detective Paws says, ‘Let’s solve a new mystery!’
