Lily stands by the sandy shore, gazing at the sea. In the distance, she spots an island that looks unlike any other she knows. The trees on it shimmer, and the water around them twinkles. ‘I’d like to visit that place,’ she tells her friend, Max.
Max looks a bit worried. ‘I’ve heard a clever bird on that island enjoys playing tricks on visitors.’
But Lily is fearless. ‘Let’s hop on our boat and see.’
They sail towards the island. The water is so clear that they can see fish of all colours swimming below. On the island, colourful flowers sing sweet songs, and friendly animals come over to greet them. But suddenly, a sound like laughter fills the air.
‘It’s that tricky bird!’ Max exclaims.
The bird swoops down, grabs Max’s hat, and flies away. Lily thinks quickly. ‘We need to outsmart the bird,’ she says.
She takes out a shiny toy and places it on a rock. The bird, spotting something more polished than Max’s hat, drops the hat and snatches the toy instead.
Lily and Max burst into laughter. Now they have a funny story to share when they return home.
