Native English Teacher

Job Description

*Updated 2022-12-08

Our teachers should be professional teachers, people who are genuine about education, people who love to work with children and get great satisfaction working with children. We are looking for teachers who are eager to expand their career in education, people who are looking to grow. Our teachers are loving, caring and genuinely interested in children. They like to interact with children be they their own students or others. Our teachers are not afraid of letting their hair down, getting dirty and hands on with the kids. Our teachers are open to new concepts, to new ideas to new methodologies and are generally open to learning and keen to learn.

Our teachers are organised, meticulous and perfectionists. They take pride in the work and they understand the need for excellence and they strive for this in everything they do.

Our teachers become the best teachers and they become very proud of what they do and have achieved.

Duties

1. Teaching approx. 25 hours per week (give and take)

Unlike every other centre, we cap our teachers teaching hours for the sake of quality, passion and having enough energy to ensure each class is awesome.

We don’t state that in the contract as it reduces the centre's ability to be flexible to accommodate for situations. However, all our centre managers do well to keep the teaching hours to around 25 hours during regular term time. During the summer programme (our peak season between mid July to the end of August), you should expect to teach around 28 hours (give and take). Most teachers find that if taken an average over a period like 3 months, their hours are within the informal cap.

2. Admin Duties

Aside from your teaching hours specified in the job description, there are 3 main teacher admin duties

Monthly Parent Updates

You are expected to update every single one of your students parents once a month. Each parent update takes about 15 minutes, which means in one hour, you should aim to complete four.

To begin a parent update. You must enter an entry in our student journal, this is basically a few bullet points that outlines how a student have been learning for the past month, including progress and challenges.

After you have articulated this information in the journal, you can call the parent and perform a parent update (or speak to them in person if they come to pick up their kids after class). You should aim to deliver this information in a five minute phone conversation.

After you have completed the phone call, you must capture this conversation in a call log (just date and method), so you can you track your Parent Update progress through each month.

Progress Report Writing and Printing

At the end of each level, which is usually between 3 to 6 months long depending on the course. You are expected to write a progress report for each student that outlines the progress that they have made, and the skills that they've learned. In each report card, there is a comment box where you can write something positive, so that your students can bring this report card to any school interviews they might be going to.

Teachers can usually start writing these reports towards the end of the course, rather than after the end of a course to save time.

Preparing Lesson Materials

Most of our courses are now using printed books, so there is very little to prepare other than some activity cutouts. Before some high-level courses teachers are expected to print worksheets and booklets, this takes about an hour or so for each week's classes.

3. Meeting with your centre manager to account for every single one of your students

4. Attend meetings & our company wide annual refresher training

5. Planning for special events

6. Participate in continuous professional development
